_project Name: Modern Sustainable Beach Villas
_location: Kamala Beach, Phuket, Thailand
_brief: To design six water villas on the beach in Phuket that would provide luxury, ease of access to the beach and sustainable construction.
_considerations: The privileged location of frontline beach in the corner of a beautiful bay became the main element we reacted to throughout the design process.
_response: The villas are set in a lush tropical forest at water’s edge so we needed to incorporate both the water and the surrounding vegetation into the design. We allowed the existing trees into the villas, designing around them, and allowing them to form the villa shapes. The angled glass responds to specific views on the beach. The glass façade towards the beach on the lower level reveals the beach open for the bedrooms, and we use the water in the pool to provide the privacy required.
